Pursue Career Upgrade or Business Upgrade?

picture is for illustration purposes only

I've just reached a crossroad in my journey of being job independent by 18.08.2010. My original plan was to go freelance early next year, meant as a transition stage before leaping into a whole new chapter in my life. However, Last Thursday I was called for a one-to-one session with the new GM. At first I thought it was regarding my 1 year employment bond with the company which I was sort-of cheated into agreeing (read end of this post for more info). At first it WAS about that. But then he gave me a proposition that not only will make void the bond, but also with some other added incentives as well (read salary upgrade)!!

Upgrade 6: Its the Little Things that Matters Or Benefits of being a Business Owner

originally i had another post in mind, but I was so excited about this new post that I just had to put the other one on hold :)

Last Saturday was the wedding of my sister's sister-in-law in Kamunting, a little above Taiping. Before heading there, we had a 2 night stay at Ipoh to look at the local potential market for a possible future branch as well as to have a splash at the Lost World of Tambun amusement park.Since the park is considered a "cawangan" of Sunway Lagoon, we were expecting the normal hustle & bustle.

When we entered, to our amaze the park was quite 'lengang', save for the park staff and a few groups of friends. Then i remembered, it was a Friday morning! I really thought that it was Saturday. I was instantly reminded that this was one of the small benefits of not being attached to a routine 9-5 job. Not having to stand in long queues to get on a ride, not having to sacrifice 'dangerously' personal space while swimming in the water, clean & dry toilets and changing rooms and most important less hairy pot bellies :P. Furthermore, since it was not a peak season we were able to stay at one of the most expensive hotel in Ipoh (The Impiana Casuarina) at 60% less the normal price. They even upgraded our room to a Superior Deluxe, definitely the biggest room that I have stayed so far in a hotel.

Upgrade 5: Debts! or How to Sell to a Malay Customer

This post should of gone up before my travel to Kuching on Tuesday. Turned out I had a lot to prepare for the travel itself.

Finally, a post on personal finance. First, watch the following clip. Make sure you concentrate from minute 1:10

Upgrade 4: Coincidence, the work of Lady Luck or ...?

Do you believe in coincidences or do you believe that God meant it to be?
Here are some of my personal experiences for your judgment.

Upgrade 3: Start Now! or The 31 Year Old CEO

I attended TIME's Deeparay Open House yesterday (our office subscribes to one of their lines). At first mmg malas nak pergi but my boss insisted me to tag along, to do some business networking. The event started at 3.00 pm and I arrived at 3.15 pm. My other office mates only arrived at 4.30 pm ! so I had to wait for them eventhough dah kekenyangan. Fortunately there were some familiar faces & also got to knew some new people.

Before the event, we had a Farewell Lunch for our GM (his last day with our company). We were talking about TIME and Jason addressed TIME's CEO as "that young fella". I was curious so later i went to their website and was shocked to find out that the CEO is very young indeed! Only 31 years old! This was the same position that was previously filled by an ex-CEO of TMNET!

Upgrade 2: What's Your Price! or Getting your Resume across

Yesterday I was updating my resume for a part-time job which is scheduled for early next year when i thought about writing this post (I'm planning to go freelance next year, part of my plan to retire 'makan gaji' before my 30th birthday insyaAllah).

There are many online articles and even books on how to effectively write a resume. Just 'Google" it. However I would like to share my personal thoughts on making your resume stand out & what should you write as your 'Expected Salary'.

Upgrade 1: Benchmark! or Never Settle for Average

I've always strived to become different in everything I do. Part of it is because I don't want to be part of the majority. Just because everyone's doing it, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do! Just because everyone has a Sattelite Dish or a small grey/black/white box thingy sitting on top of their TV doesn't mean you desperately need to get one too just so you would not feel left out B-).

Being different means many things. It could be good, or even be negative. Let's talk about being different in positive terms specifically, of not being average (as majority of people are in the average group).

Question: How does one become above average?

Answer: Benchmark!

My first Post!

Akhirnya aku berjaya menulis my first post tanpa perlu tunggu sampai tahun depan :P. Setting up this blog pun dah makan bertaun lamanya. I dont want this to be another 'gajah putih' project like my fotopages (still up ke?), my first personal website (tulis HTML pakai notepad OK!), my friendster page & a bunch of other stuff.
Earlier this year, i almost created a blog because i was so furious with these two big fat pink & round "CON"sultants from the glorious US of A (will talk about this later) and needed a medium to channel my rage. But I guess, that too wasn't a strong enough reason to get me kick-started.
